The early game is at 9:30am ET The NFL's first game in Spain !   There's not much luster to this one as both  teams have struggled and have key injuries.   

   The Hedgie doesn't really like much on Today's card.   But will sprinkle a  few smaller plays :

'It's a game that was circled on the NFL calendar right from its release, and while it might have a little less luster now, you can bet at least one of the teams isn't looking past it.

After a 295 day wait, the Detroit Lions finally get their opportunity for revenge against the Washington Commanders, who shockingly knocked them out of the playoffs in the NFC divisional round last year.

And as if the Lions didn't have enough reason to get up for this game, they're also coming off one of their worst performances of the past three seasons, losing 27-24 to the Minnesota Vikings. It feels like a game ripe for a big performance.

This is just a terrible spot for the Commanders.  They will be without starting QB Jayden Daniels and WR Terry McLaurin , DB Amos , and Safety Quan Martin.  

Hedgie rarely lays over a touchdown in the NFL. and today wil reluctantly lay -8 for a STAR .   But the opinion is heavy on the Lions and ghe Hedgie will try and make BANK with some teasers. and player props !

There are a lot of UGLY DOGS this week , the Hedgie has a couple teasers and has sifted thru the dumpster to try and find some value..

SAINTS +14.5  1 STAR -  Saints have lost 3 straight and turn to new starting QB Shough .  The Saints defense has improved as the season as gone but noone is noticing. The Rams come off a bye . The public loves betting teams off a bye even though the stats vs the spread don't necessarily favor it.    This line too high. You can shop and get 14.5 

CHARGERS / TITANS OVER - 2 STARS  This is another inflated line as the Chargers are on the road and favored by 13.  If this line gets to 14 Hedgie would consider a star. But the better play is going OVER the low set total.   Cam Ward continues to learn and continues to turn the ball over which always results in more points .

FALCONS +5 2 STARS -  buying low on the Falcons as QB Penix and WR Drake look to return . Also  some of their defense also getting healthy .  Feels like Pats are getting alot of hype and perhaps overvalued here in this spot.  (if penix or drake scratch then pass)

The start of this season has The Hedgie a lil more confused than ever.  After 27 years of posting and predicting the Hedgie is trying to find a way to beat the books and it just may be by using the Flux Capacitor to see the future....

For Tonight's game most expect a blowout.  The Bills want the number 1 seed and should have the pedal down.  In the past the Hedgie has liked the angle of betting the DOUBLE DIGIT DIVISIONAL DOG.   But the Miami Dolphins have looked pathetic and mainsream media is reporting that many of the players have already given up on Head Coach Daniels.    The Dolphins have injured DBs and the Bills will be without 2 starting linebackers in Milano and Ed Oliver.    Points should come easy...so

 But first a quick clip on the bad beat from yesterday.  Hedgie had a 4-2 Star weighted Saturday but it should have been 5-1 .  With Ole Miss up 30-20 ( laying 8 points ) and just 13 seconds left , Kentucky  kicked a FG to cut it to 7 .

 Sean McDonough was well aware of the Vegas line in his announcing ....

"And those who occasionally invest on such things , were just impacted by that field goal which brings it to a 7 point game"

1 PM  TEASER ( 2 teams/6 Points )  -  JETS +9 & BUCS +7 -  2 STARS 

            First, The Hedgie wouldn't blame anyone for taking the JETS +3 at home.   Aaron Glenn makes coaching debut and his defense will get after QB Rodgers .  The total for this game is very low set at 38 and has been dipping to  37.5.  Points will be a premium and Hedgie likes the home team getting a full 9 in a teaser.

           The Bucs at Atlanta opened as a 2.5 point favorite . At lanta has become a popular home dog pick the past few days and has driven the line all the way to a pickem and even Atlanta favored in a few spots.  OC Liam Coehn departed to take the Jacksonville HC job , but Baker Mayfield has a grasp on this offense and even without LT Wirfs and WR Godwin they have plenty of talent to win this game.  Atlanta will be starting a new RT on offense. Their starting LT is hurt and out, their backup RT is also hurt.  That leaves fill in Wilkinson to start . The Bucs signed free agent Hassan Reddick in the offseason and he should be very disruptive today.  

1PM : CAROLINA PANTHERS +4.5  1 STAR  

 This line opened as Jags -2.5 . They have a new head coach and there's alot of hype surrounding draft pick Hunter who will be playing 'as an every down wr' .

 But the Hedgie thinks the Jags will have some growing pains out of the gate . The Panthers are perceived to be a poor team but things clicked for them at the end of last season . QB Young started playing well and finished the season with a 7 TD vs 0 Int ratio his last 3 games.   Fade the public money and grab the 4.5 points .   

1PM :  Patriots /Raiders OVER 44  -    1 STAR 

The Patriots brought in  Diggs as a WR and QB Maye has a year under his belt . The Pats will be without their best CB Gonzales.   The Raiders also are revamped . new HC Pete Carroll brought over QB Geno Smith, drafted a stud RB in Jeanty and hired O Coordinator  Chip Kelly.    Hedgie sees more offense in this opener than the public perception and will go over the fairly low total .

NFL WEEK 1. - Hedgie's first NFL play of the season - 'I'M HERE TO BALL'

Much has been made of the Micha Parsons trade in the media and the Dallas fans are not happy .  But Dallas has struggled stopping the run and Kenny Clark is an All pro DT.  He was a bit upset at the trade announcement but after getting to meet is new teammates he's excited to be in Dallas and said "I'M HERE TO BALL " 

The line opened at Eagles -6.5 and since the trade has been bet up to 8 and even 8.5 in some spots.  There is also the consideration of the Super Bowl hangover.  Hedgie will be fading the emotional over reaction to the trade.

 Weather forecast calls for possible 25mph wind gusts and some showers.  That would lend itself to a lower scoring game which favors the dog here as well.

The Hedgie sees this game playing out in a couple ways . Firstly, there's no doubt the Eagles the better interior lines. Both their Oline and Dline are better and the have the best RB in the NFL in Saquon Barkley.  Also , the Chiefs at times have struggled vs the run.  There is also no doubt about the Magic of Patrick Mahomes and the genius of Andy Reid.  The Eagles defense has been dominant all season but Mahomes . Vic Fangio was a great addition.  But Mahomes is 8-0 (6-2 ATS) vs Fangio defenses ( Dolphins & Broncos).   So the Hedgie sees this game either being dominated by the Eagles Oline and Saquon Barkley having a field day  OR Mahomes using his magic to steal a tight win.

 PROP PLAYS :

 Dallas Goedert -  OVER 50.5 Receiving yards  - It's been well documented that the Chiefs have not been good vs TE this year. If you recall on Christmas Day The Hedgie strongly recommended the STeelers Pat Freiermuth  on two prop plays (OVER 25 yards and OVER 40 yards ) which bothhit paydirt.  The Eagles have many weapons and the Chiefs can't stop them all. They will be focused on stopping Barkley and teh two dangerous wideouts ( AJ Brown and D Smith) . This will leave plenty of opportunities for Goedert who racked up 85 yards just last game vs the commanders.  This is a popular play and my favorite on the board .

RB Gainwell OVER 6.5 yards rushing (-110) 

Mahomes WILL throw an interception ( +114)   -  if this game script plays out as perceived then Mahomes will be scrambling alot and playing from behind.  He'll no doubt have some magic but he also will be trying to create plays on his own under pressure from a very good defense.  Hedgie sees a tipped ball or two and an INT at some point.  

Kicker BUTKER over 1.5 Field Goals Made - The Eagles play alot of zone and give up yards between the 30s. But they tighten up in the redzone and force Fiels Goals.  Butker has played in 4 Super Bowls and is 9 out of 10 .  You have to lay a steep price but it's worth it.   -190 

FIRST TD of game :  Chiefs have been slow starters this season so the Hedgie thinks the Eagles will put up the first touchdown of the game.  Hedgie likes the long shot odds . Since Hedgie see Goedert having a big game why not also the First TD ....also Johan Dotson has been getting on the field a lot more.  With the Chiefs so focused on the other stars Dotson is worth a shot at 70-1 !

But you are getting plus money .

Hedgie's got a longtime pal who lives in Nevada and has been crushing the books with his WNCAA plays.  Kenny W likes Texas and the Under today . Let's all ride with Kenny and roll it into the Super Bowl 

These two teams met earlier in season and South Carolina won handily 67-50.  Today's rematch is in Austin Texas and Hedgie leans Texas as a 2.5 point underdog. But the official play is a tough fought defensive game ...UNDER 137.5  2 STARS

 The Hedge is properly fueled up , caffeinated and focused for a great day of football …

3pm : Eagles / Commanders 

    Hard to imagine Jayden Daniels and Commanders NOT keeping this game close if not stealing a win.   Although OL Cosmi is out and DT Payne as well , the Eags are dinged up at a more key position. QB Hurts is just 3 games removed from a concussion, has not played well and now has a dinged up knee and will be wearing a brace. Hedgie thinks the Commanders have an edge on coaching as well.  Eags head coach Sirianni is 3-4 ATS in the playoffs.
