Jags look like they have mailed it in and the colts are surging ....but the Jags do not like the Colts and the money is coming in on the Jags. the line is now Colts - 5.5 ...... PASS

MORE IMPORTANTLY, the Saints have decided to shut Reggie Bush down for the season as their playoff aspirations are gonzo. The lions will be starting Orlovsky and have been fighting hard every week to get their first win of the season.

NFL MONDAY

after sweeping yet another card this past sunday we'll try to add to the pile monday night....originally hedgie was staying away from this line as the eags were favored by 13.5 or 14. double digit dogs were on fire early in the season going 17-2 heading into thanksgiving but they have since cooled off going 1-6. but the betting public sees the browns as given up. they are out of the playoffs and down to their 3rd string QB , Dorsey. They look pathetic vs the Titans last week while the eags appear to be surging. So the line has jumped to 15.5 and is going higher. The hedgie knows one thing: NFL PLAYERS GIVE IT THEIR ALL ON NATIONAL TV. The Browns have posted 2 solid efforts vs Giants and BIlls on Monday Night and will come out with Max effort tonight. Hedgie expects to see a lil wildcat tonight from Josh Cribbs

Hedgie has been watching the line creep up to 58 1/2 as most bettors expect a high scoring affair based on the last two games. But the hedgie suspects the Rajun Cajuns will ride their potent running attack and try to make history with 2 1000 yard rushers this eve. Middle Tennessee State will be ready and thus the clock will also be RUNNING..... 58 1/2 too high

first of all , what's wrong with this pic ? did anyone notice this last night? opening drive by the Texans about 3 minutes into the game Andre Johnson catches a 15 yard dig and races to beat the defender to the pylon. WHOOPS ! who's in charge of setting up the pylons? ha

Broncos at Brown NFL Network

Hedgie was surprised to see the Broncos lose last week coming off a bye vs Miami. The Denver defense really is that bad. Shanahan will find a way to get Cutler going so rather than fade the Broncos Hedgie will play OVER 46. Brady Quinn gets the start and anyone can move the ball vs this defense.......1 star

if you played the hedgie's star weighted picks you were once again a winner this past weekend. although the hedgie is very disappointed with jay cutler and trent edwards BOTH whom gave up gamechanging INT's for touchdowns! unacceptable. these teams both rely heavily on sound QB play and the QB's are not getting it done. stay tuned for a possible big PLAY AGAINST these 2 teams in the coming weeks.....
on to tonight where the hedgie feels the need to add to his winnings this week. most followers know the hedgie has a personal bias and friends who like the redskins but rest assured , THE HEDGIE HAS NO HEART when it comes to gambling and simply tries to make mooolah.....last year people remember the first ever 6 star play in the redskins vs the bills after sean taylors death. that was mistimed by a game. after that loss the skins went on a 6-0 tear against the spread. this year the hedgie is 1-0 on redskins games. week one teaser with saints AGAINST the skins...... important to note as we get ready for the play tonight. this should be a great game between two tough teams. a few notes:

- first of all, two of the best WR's in the NFL will play tonight . Sanatana Moss and Hines Ward leave it all on the field and do whatever it takes to help their teams win whether it be making a big catch, blaocking relentlessly , or even returning punts.....
























- on the other hand, the hedgie spotted TO crying again after a the NY Giants put a complete whooping on the Cowboys.....hedgie loves it when the Cowboys lose and especially when TO is a part of the process.....

- vegas anticipates a hard fought low scoring game with the skins installed a 1.5 favorites and the total at 37

- steelers are 5-2 and both losses have come to NFC east teams (eags week 3, giants last week)

- skins are 6-2 and 5-3 vs spread while going 3-1 at home

- both teams are very banged up ;

- most experts are pointing to a hard hitting low scoring affair. the steelers boast the #1 defense in the NFl and their 3-4 scheme is wreaking havoc on opposing offenses. steller LBs Lamar Woodley and James Farrior have a combines 15 sacks so far and Dick Lebeau's schemes will cause much confusion to a banged up skins O-line. Most think for the Redskins or the Steelers to win they will have to establish the run. Portis leads the NFL in rushing while the Steelers have not established the run much yet and it has cost them.

- the hedgie sees things differently and anticipates the steelers to come out throwing. they get back willie parker and santonio holes so hedgie thinks the steelers will come out with an uptempo passing attack vs a skins secondary that has been a little banged up. perhaps even a no huddle look which big ben has thrived in. on the other side of the ball, jim zorn's play calling has been uncanny. he seems to know exactly how to put jason campbell in successful positions to make big plays. he's aggressive and has a knack for keeping defenses off balance. the hedgie thinks this will be a hard fought battle and close game so will do a teaser to capitalize on the slight lines moves. the general public like the monday night home team so has moved the line to redskins - 2 1/2. it's a beautiful night in DC with no wind and temperatures in the mid 50's. with most predicting a low scoring affair the hedgie will take the value and go with :

Eagles -6 1/2  at seattle 3 stars       eagles are finally getting healthy. westbrook is back as well as kevin curtis & reggie brown . mcnabb should have a field day vs a banged up and struggling seattle defense. seattle has lost it's home field advantage lately and will struggle in this one as well with hasslebeck still out and seneca wallace under center. with the eagles n 4th place in the nfc east they will be focused and give maximum effort.    eags 27   seahawks 17

Broncos - 3 or 3.5  vs Dolphins    2 stars     this line opened at 3 and early money has bet the broncos to -3.5.   if you can still catch 3 jump on it but even at 3.5 this line offers good value. with the dolphins getting an impressive win at home vs the bills last week who had 4 turnovers, and the broncos who look horrendous last time out on national tv vs the pats  this line is still relatively low.  shanahan is 9-1 against the spread after a bye week.  although no champ bailey is a blow the bronocs have had 2 weeks to get ready for this one.  broncos 30   dolphins 20

The hedgie is going to have ALOT to say this weekend so stay tuned. but for now there are some immediate plays to take advantage of....

1) Giants +3 2 stars santonio holmes (steelers wr) was declared inactive today. this was a swift response by the steelers to his marijuana possesion. hedgie was already leaning to the giants because of the steelers woes on their offensive line . looks like willie parker did not practice friday so will also be inactive

2) chargers -3 3 stars both teams are realing a bit but the saints are close to unraveling. reggie bush , their best offensive weapon is out for 4 weeks, and the saints need to now rely on deuce mcallister . well, a news story just hit the tape today that deuce violated the nfl steroid policy. this would be an immediate 4 game suspension. hedgie has not confirmed if he will play or not but regardless this will be a distraction for the saints.

both these lines will start moving so if you play the chargers or giants grab those important lines NOW ! over the course of a season a bankroll can be drastically affected by the smallest of line moves so we need to shop them and be discliplined. the reason i write this is because the hedgie constantly gets emails and hears comments like the one he heard today from a supporter we'll call "toughest" . he contacted the hedgie and said "I'M DESPARATE FOR A PICK THIS WEEK, HEDGIE " this is a reminder that we need to use all our tools to take advatage of the lines that are ourt there. last week the hedgie suggested a play on the Rutgers - 1 1/2. by kickoff the line had move to Rutgers - 2 1/2 thegame ended Rutgers 12 U Conn 10
Hopefully, the hedgie followers got the best line. and hnopefuly this week we won't need the -3 or +3 from the chargers or Giants . But it's sure nice to lock it in early and get teh best price while you can....

That does not bode well for Wake as Clemson boasts the best 1-2 RB tandem in the country. Hedgie will back the road DOG here and expects Clemson to bounce back from a bad loss vs Maryland as RB's James Davis & CJ Spiller run all over Wake tonight !

Circle the wagons for a 4 STAR PLAY The Bills looked impressive last week on offense , defense , and special teams. Trent Edwards had a passer rating of 96 and they also get back pro bowl holdout OT Jason Peters this week.

The Jags on the other hand are a MESS ! One of their backup tackles , Collier, was critically wounded when shot several times which has to affect the psyche of a team. And when they traveled to Tennessee last week they lost 2 more starting O Linemen. Garrard was sacked 7 times last week (the most in week 1 ) and had a passer rating of 68.

The public perception of the Jags is that they are a superbowl contender and could possibly upend the Colts in the AFC South. That's the reason for this wrong line. Things change quickly in the NFL wand the Hedgie wil capiltalize on the wrong line....

Oh by the way, there is ONE MORE REASON THE BILLS WILL WIN....
MARCUS STROUD - this guy is a beast ! The former 3 time pro bowler with Jacksonville was traded to the Bills this past offseason and he wasn't particularly happy about it. When asked Stroud says "it's just another game" But when teammate safety Donte Whitner was asked of his teammates return to Jacksonville he replied " When they look at the film, they're going to be, Why did we let this guy go? "
Stroud is going to decimate an already banged up Jags Oline. Hedgie gives the Bills a good chance to win outright. Take BILLS +5 1/2

ANOTHER PLAY: Tennessee Titans +1 at Cincinnati - how bad are the Bengals? Carson Palmer racked up under 100 yards last week and the Bengals looked lifeless. The TItans are a good physical road team and are a better team with Collins under center. 1 Star

Hurricane Ike & Calloege Football

Ike will affect many games this weekend. One game the Hedgie likes is Baylor playing their 3rd game in a row at home vs Washington St. Originally this game was Washington St -2. All the early betting has come in on Baylor. Washington State is pathtic. They lost to Cal 66-3 while Baylor is gaining some confidence. Thie game was switched to Friday night which shoudl help Baylor as well since they won't be traveling. Baylor - 2 1/2 2 stars (grab sooner than later as this line is moving)

Another game the Hedgie likes is Ohio State + 11 This is more of a value play. This line originally opened at -5 . Then when USC crsuhed a bad UVA team 52-7 the line jumped to -7. Then the injury news with Beannie Wells the line has moved even more. By the way Wells has not been totally ruled out and could still be a gametime decision. Gamesmanship by Tressel ?Hedgie sees this as an overreaction and good value. Take the +11 2 stars

   this line has been coming down from 40 for no real reason other than public perception of the vikings great defense.  the packers should be able to air it out and the vikes have plenty of weapons. this game should be in the low 40's.....

Opening week appears to be a tough card:

Bengals -1 ---> 1 star.     ravens going with a division 1 -aa starting qb flacco

Bills -1      ---> 1 star     seahawaks very banged up and bills made some nice additions on Defense

            Very Big Game for Saints after last year opened 0-4   added some key ingredients 

                  in offseason which should help them get back to top of NFC south

This week has been tough to analyze with all the uncertainty.   some handicapping thoughts that came into play:

   -   how are jags dealing with Collier's shooting 

   -  everyone n the mother is betting dallas . line has jumped from -4.5 to -6 which is a big

        move in the nfl. derek anderson coming off concussion. jamal lewis might not start. but              dallas also loses newman (cb) in the secondary . leaning to over 48 1/2

    

  all in all there is just too much uncertainty to make any big plays this week.  there will be many more opportunities in the near future.......   good luck!

The Hedgie is traveling out west and will only make one play on a west coast game.

   Stanford got blasted last season 41-3 and returns a solid team with confidence coming off last week's victory while Az State has lost some good players from last season. This game will be closer than the books think

Hedgie Releases first pick of the season...

Tonight the NFL opens with Giants hosting the Skins at 7pm. The eskins looked horrendous in the preseason as they adjusted to their new head coach and new system. the last 2 games they were outscored 71-6. The Giants struggled themselves with the loss of 5 defensive starters from their superbowl unit. Vegas opened the Gmen as 3.5 point favorites which thehedgie thought was low. The line has since been bet up to -4.5 which looks like the right side.....

But the hedgie will be patient tonight and instead maybe another play it likes more.....

The GAMECOCKS of South Carolina seek revenge at Vanderbilt tonight. Vandy dealt them a sneaky blow last season whcih styarted a 5 game skid foir them. the Cocks return 7 starters on offense and 10 on defense and look poised to be one of spurrier's better teams. Even after a pathetically slow start last week vs NC State the cocks shook off 4 ints from QB Beecher to cruise to a 34-0 victory.

This week the Ole Ball Coach starts the right QB in Chris Smelly and the Cocks roll early and get revenge

Football is back and The Hedgie is ready with a new look ! With GOLD at $806 an ounce it may be time to consider fillings like Marshaw Lynch

In the past followers have been occassionally frustrated when the site would not get picks up in a timely manner for kickoffs....the hedgie is constantly scouting teams and games. this means that posting picks to the site while traveling was always hard. well, that is now fixed ! posts will occur regularly now. for example, if the hedgie is traveling to new orleans and has turbulence due to hurricane gustav and passes by the saints plane en route to indianapolis you may see a posted pick or just random thought now when the hedgie's plane lands. this will be realtime so that you can capitalize on the lines before they move.
this year the hedgie will focus on 1-3 college games and 3 nfl games each week.

freaky friday....what's in the water in tampa?

the hedgie almost cancelled his flight to vegas for the sweet 16 last night. not only was the under angle the wrong play but it pained the hedgie who is usually a dog player watch all four lower seeds in tampa not only cover but advance ! that was the first time in the history of the ncaa tournament that all 4 upsets took place at the same venue. usually a 4 team parlay pays 10-1 but if you had place $100 on those 4 teams to pull he upset it would have paid roughly $25,000 !

anyway, the hedgie comes out from UNDER his covers again today.....through round 1 the favorites own a 75% straight up record (24-8) and have covered 66% (21-11). Hedgie will pick the sides today and only stay stubborn on one o/u play.
