MNF - Katrina 10 year Anniversary

Back in 2006 The Saints had not played at their Home in Two  seasons due to Hurricane Katrina .  They were awarded a Monday Night game vs their divisional rival Falcons who were led by Michael Vick.  The Falcons were the superior team on paper then but the emotion from the Saints led them to an emotional victory which began with this blocked punt by  Steve Gleason.  The Saints went on to win  23-3.

Here we are on the 10 year Anniversary of Katrina and the Saints once again host the Falcons.  The Saints are a 3 point favorite and if the Hedgie has learned anything it's not to bet against the Saints at home on a game like this

The Hedgie is OVERLY interested in a new rule this year in the NFL

This Year the NFL is adopting 7 new rules and attempting a few on trial....

The owners also voted to amend two rules changes to be implemented on a trial basis for one year only. The Competition Committee and the owners will re-examine these rules after the season and determine if they should be made permanent or further modified.

In 2016:

• A player who is penalized twice in one game for certain types of unsportsmanlike conduct fouls will be disqualified. The types of fouls are:

• Throwing a punch or forearm, or kicking at an opponent, even if no contact is made
• Using abusive, threatening or insulting language or gestures toward opponents, teammates, officials or league representatives
• Using baiting or taunting acts or words that engender ill will between teams.

• The football will be spotted on the 25-yard line after a free kick results in a touchback. Previously, the ball was spotted at the 20-yard line.

The NFL is attempting to reduce head injuries and big collisions on kickoffs  and also likes seeing more scoring.  This new rule will affect that.  Although it's backfired in a way . Some teams are pooching the ball since they believe they can pin teams inside their 25 yard line. This resulted in a 7% increase in kickoff returns  in week 1.  But the end result will be either more potential big returns  or offenses starting on their own 25 yard line.

The Hedgie thinks this will lead to more scoring in general.  Obviously vegas is very good in setting it's lines . But vegas just cares about even action. So until the betting public catches up there's an opportunity here.   Hedgie has pinpointed  4 games in particular where the matchups should favor high scores today.

Think the Jets have a lil revenge on their minds after the Bills knocked them out of the playoffs last year !?   Motivation is high on both sides as Rex is on the hot seat once again.
  So the real key here is that the Bills are BANGED UP.  Sammy Watkins is having problems with his surgically repaired foot and Charles Clay is limited as well. It being a short week does not help any injuries . They both vow to play but that doesnt matter much as it will be hard to be productive.  That bodes well for and UNDER play but the Hedgie thinks the JETS will bounce back and put it all together tonight in a BIG way

Bottom line is that the skins are healthy and the steelers come in with suspensions and are banged up a little.
 Kirk Cousins will have alot of weaposn in D. jackson, J Reed, Garcon and their top draft pick Doctson who was activated  while Big Ben lost Byrant for the season, Leveon Bell to a 4 game suspension, Health Miller retired and M Wheaton is a scratch due to injury.

  Umass is improved and hung with Florida last week  while  BC doesn't put up a ton of points.   Nice value in this line  where UMASS feels like this is a rival of theirs....should be a lower scoring ugly style  game...

Hedgie FIRST NFL PLAY OF THE SEASON is a TWO STAR

This is Trevor Simien. He takes the reigns of the defending SB Champs and has not throw a pass yet in the NFL.   He's from Northwestern and has a strong arm.  He may be successful someday in the NFL but TONIGHT HE PLAYS ONE OF THE BEST FRONT SEVENS IN THE NFL.   

The Panthers are not talking revenge  BUT we all know this is a great opportunity to redeem themselves. In SB 50 they lost Jonathan Stewart early to an ankle and did not have their best WR in Kelvin Benjamin.   

Both Defenses are very good and the Hedgie leans  Panthers and Under in both. The line is currently  Carolina -3  40.5  O/U.     Hedgie's  favorite teasers are taking 6.5 points when you can take a team from  -3  to +3.5.  Thats usually -120 juice.
